Synopsis: Through an unlikely connection, Jim, a troubled man, contemplating violence, encounters Jane, someone looking to help. Exploring racism, xenophobia and the impacts of gun violence, LINE TO HOPE by Courtney Hartman is a powerful and thought provoking exploration into the complexities of mental health, societal pressures, and genuine human connection.

Theater for the Public’s Health
Join us for a powerful one-act play exploring the critical public health issues of mental health, gun violence and political polarization. Immediately following the performance, a panel of mental health, violence prevention and public health experts will lead a community discussion, offering insights and answering questions related to the themes presented on stage. After the play and panel, feel free to stick around for a community reception where audience members, panelists, and local organizations can connect, collaborate, and share resources.
About the Playwright
Courtney Alex, PsyD is a licensed clinical psychologist based in the SF Bay area with a background in all things theatre. She has been practicing in CA since 2017 working with children, families and adults using an AntiRacist lens in her clinical practice. She has performed and collaborated in various visual art installations and bay area theatre projects for over a decade; including a directing debut in the 2019 VDay season with VDay East Bay the Vagina Monologues emphasizing racial diversity and acknowledgment of the limitations of a script that aims to represent the experiences of all women. She continues to work towards integrating her psychological and theatre practices to engage audiences in complex and vital topics and is very excited for her debut as a playwright for Elevate and their mission driven theatre!
